VARIETY CRUISES VOTED BEST BOUTIQUE CRUISE LINE WORLDWIDE

TORONTO -   Variety Cruises has been selected as the number one Boutique Cruise Line Worldwide by the annual USA Today Best of 10 contest. GLP Worldwide is the Canadian representative for Variety Cruises and Cuba Cruises in Canada.

“We are delighted that Variety Cruises won as it is such an exceptional cruise line that offers passengers a very personalized and culturally focused cruise experience to all the destinations it serves and we feel privileged to represent them in Canada” says Alan Law, director of sales and marketing for GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours.

The annual USA Today Best of 10 contest curates a select number of boutique cruise lines and invites its international readership to vote for their number one selection. USA Today has over 3 million readers daily and over 35 million online visitors each month to its digital edition.

Contenders in the Boutique Cruise Line category included notable cruise lines Seabourn, Crystal, Windstar, Sea Cloud, Lindblad-National Geographic, Sea Dream Yacht Club, Star Clippers, Silverseas, Ponant and others.

Variety Cruises owns and operates 11 upscale and casual Mega-Yachts between 4 and 5 stars with capacity of up to 72 guests. The cruise line was established upon the philosophy of connecting local communities and international travellers in a sustainable, non-intrusive way by restricting cruise operations to small sized upscale yachts that continue to exclusively dock in small as well as secluded ports of call otherwise unreachable by larger cruise lines. Over the years the small ship cruise experience formula continues to improve and adapt but the core is the people that add colour to every Variety Cruises' moment.

In 2016-2017 Variety Cruises will operate cruises in Greece, Turkey, the Adriatic, Cuba, Costa Rica, Panama, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, the Seychelles, Madagascar, France, Italy, West Africa, the British Isles, and Brazil. 87% of Variety Cruises' former guests describe their experience as "exceptional" while 93% state a wish and intention to travel again with Variety Cruises in the future. Please visit www.glpworldwide.com for complete itineraries, pricing, terms and conditions for Variety Cruises that GLP offers.

PANDAW RIVER EXPEDITIONS APPOINTS GLP WORLDWIDE

Innovative Southeast Asia cruise company to be represented in Canada

TORONTO -   GLP Worldwide has the honour of introducing Pandaw River Expeditions to the Canadian market. Pandaw is the incarnation of the legendary Irrawaddy Flotilla Company, founded in 1865 and offers a variety of unique and culturally enriching cruises on smaller colonial style ships in Burma (Myanmar), Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, China and partnerships India, Thailand and the Amazon in South America.

“We are thrilled to represent such an innovative and unique cruise product ideally suited for the Canadian market with a focus on cultural and interactive excursions with the locals and at an affordable price,” says Alan Law, director of sales and marketing for GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours.

“GLP Worldwide has a reputation for providing knowledgeable and personalized customer service and we are pleased that they will represent Pandaw River Expeditions in Canada ” said Hugh Clayson, commercial director for Pandaw River Expeditions. “Many Canadians already enjoy our cruises but we believe there can be so many more once they know about how different the Pandaw cruise experience is compared to the competition and discover our unique destinations and itineraries that are unlike any other operator.”

Pandaw has 14 meticulously crafted and designed ships accommodating from 10-60 passengers. Each ship has been custom built by traditional craftsmen and hand finished in brass and teak. Luxury and comfort permeate each ship without sacrificing their distinctive colonial character. Personalized service is also a trademark of Pandaw River Expeditions, which provides a passenger-to-staff ratio of 2:1.

One of the distinguishing features is an ultra-low draft on the ships that allows them to go to more remote areas and shallower waters than would be inaccessible to other boats, so Pandaw can offer its passengers a more intimate experience of the local cultures.

Passenger comfort is paramount and the ships feature buffet breakfast and sit-down lunch and dinners, observation and panoramic decks ideal for viewing, air-conditioned cabins, a full array of cabin amenities including attached bathrooms, kimonos, library, lounges, spa facilities, Wi-Fi, mini safe and much more. Its all-inclusive pricing means passengers on a Pandaw owned ship can enjoy shore excursions, meals, local beer, local soft drinks, local spirits, mineral water and crew gratruities at no extra cost. Note: Pandaw partner ships do NOT include drinks or crew gratruities.

Pandaw River Expeditions offers a variety of excursions, from one to 20 days, in Burma, Indochina, India and the Amazon, such as:

GLP WORLDWIDE NORWAY VOYAGES BROCHURE NOW AVAILABLE

New Services, Menu, Ships and More in 2016/17

TORONTO -   GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours, the Canadian representative for Hurtigruten, has produced a new 2016-017 Coastal Voyages of Norway brochure and is now available to agents by contacting GLP Worldwide at www.glpworldwide.com or 1-(866) 760-1987.The new brochure provides prices in Canadian dollars.

“This new brochure is unlike any previous one with a more personalized approach with interviews and stories on one of the ship’s longest serving captains, an article on a cruise experience from a past passenger, a behind the scenes look at the cuisine that's served on board, and extensive details on itineraries, pricing and more” says Alan Law, director of sales and marketing for GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours.

A staple of Norwegian culture since 1893, Hurtigruten's fleet of modern ships offers a unique glimpse into Norwegian culture as they transport guests and locals alike along Norway's spectacular west coast, stopping at 34 ports of call between the cultural center of Bergen and Kirkenes, high above the Arctic Circle.

The new brochure details the extraordinary voyage and land opportunities available in 2016 and 2017 as well as an array of more than 45 optional excursions that help to personalize the voyage for each guest. With access to a selection of voyages all year long, travellers are rewarded with seasonal early booking discounts and special discounts for Canadian residents.

Hurtigruten has been a world leader in expedition voyages to both the Arctic and Antarctic regions, and in 2016 they're expanding that concept to include the Coastal Norway route with new Expedition Style Voyages, available on three of Hurtigruten's ships. Expedition Style Voyages will offer everything travellers have come to expect from the Classic Voyage with additional opportunities to explore the spectacular coastline and culture in a more active and informative way.

Available on the MS Nordkapp, MS Nordnorge and MS Nordlys, Expedition Style Voyages include a full onboard Expedition Team offering more opportunities for learning and discovery for more active travelers; additional "expedition" style on board activities, lectures, and daily discussions; and access to specialty hikes with the Expedition Team, who provide expert insights into Norway's wildlife, geography, natural phenomenon and culture. Expedition Style Voyages are available year-round, with activities and excursions created specifically for each season.

Maritime nostalgia lovers and history buffs will want to take note of Hurtigruten's new Vintage Era Voyages which take guests "back in time" to 1964 while aboard the MS Lofoten, the oldest ship in the fleet. To enhance the experience of a journey to the past, guests can join activities and excursions not available on regular coastal sailings: fishing from the deck, trivia, auctions and a special ice swimming excursion. And because the MS Lofoten is smaller than other Hurtigruten ships, she will visit all 34 ports on the route as well as several other ports that are inaccessible to the larger ships.

Spicing up an already highly-regarded onboard menu plan, Hurtigruten has now added a new a la carte dinner menu on nine of its coastal voyage ships. This allows guests the freedom to enjoy the regular 3-course menu or upgrade to the a la carte menu. Options for a la carte diners range from 2- to 5-course meals and are available for a small upgrade fee starting at $19 US. As with all meals on Hurtigruten's coastal ships, the Coastal Kitchen concept prevails, with seasonal ingredients taking center stage in each dish - all sourced locally at the 34 ports visited on each ships' journey up and down the scenic west coast of Norway.

All pricing for the brochure is done in Canadian dollar pricing making it easier for the travel agent and consumer to calculate costs.

Hurtigruten's Announces $64 Million U.S. Upgrade to Four Ships

New Look, New Menus in Ship Makeovers

TORONTO -   Hurtigruten announced it will be doing major renovations and upgrades to four of its ships in 2016. All four of the mid-1990s built ships are being upgraded with new interiors and furnishings reflecting a modern Scandinavian design inspired by Norway’s scenic fjord-indented west coast. Hurtigruten, represented in Canada by GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours, is the world leader in exploration travel.

“Our ship upgrades aim to ensure our position as an innovator and leading force in nature-based explorer travels in polar waters,” says CEO Daniel Skjeldam. “We continue to reinvent the Hurtigruten experience by combining tradition, innovation and sustainability,” added Skjeldam.

The four ships will be rotated through the Norwegian based shipyard with work expected to take less for each of the four ships: the MS Polarlys (completed by Feb. 2); MS Kong Harald (Feb. 7); MS Nordkapp (April 19); and MS Nordnorge (Nov. 18). The new MS Spitsbergen, undergoing a more major upgrade to fit in with the current fleet, will launch in spring 2016. Hurtigruten is expected to invest more than $64 million U.S. in the renovations.

The updated look for these ships has been named New Arctic Interior and will reflect the breath-taking coastal landscapes in a stylish and yet unpretentious manner. All of the ship's common areas, reception foyers, cafes and bistro areas and the aft deck will be renovated. The colours will be earthy and derived from the coast and the sea, while making use of many natural materials, such as wood, slate and leather. Designs and shapes are expected to bear a resemblance to those found in nature - such as the flow of the waves or the strength of the majestic fjords.

The ongoing transformation of the restaurants and menu items will continue to evolve. Hurtigruten has partnered with dozens of local food suppliers to develop the Coastal Kitchen concept. With seasonal ingredients, often harvested the same day, guests are able to enjoy the freshest and best Norwegian food available.

A range of fresh pastries from the ship’s own bakeries will be offered and barbeque stands are being added to the outside decks. The all-important bar will be moved to the panoramic lounge, offering incredible views as guests enjoy an afternoon or evening cocktail.

Hurtigruten is a world leader in expedition voyages, sailing to the most remote of destinations, including Antarctica, Greenland and the Arctic’s Spitsbergen, as well as year-round along Norway's coast and to Europe in the spring and fall. The company’s fleet of 13 intimate ships, which each carries 100 to 646 guests, allows travellers to enjoy the scenery and culture of the destination in a relaxed atmosphere.

GLP Worldwide has produced a comprehensive 2015/16 Explorer Voyages 126-page brochure featuring cruises to Antarctica, Greenland, Spitsbergen and Europe. The brochure features spectacular photography and provides detailed itineraries, ship layout, pricing, terms and conditions but also some useful information on the history and culture of the area. All pricing for the brochure is done in Canadian dollar pricing making it easier for the travel agent and consumer to calculate costs.

A La Carte Menus Now Offered on Hurtigruten's Coastal Voyages

Hurtigruten Enhances It's Culinary Offerings

TORONTO -  Local ingredients, fresh from the sea or the land, have been a staple of Hurtigruten's menu on its various voyages. Passengers will now have more options to choose from Hurtigruten's already delicious menu with new a la carte dinner menus on its Norwegian coastal voyage ships. Hurtigruten, represented in Canada by GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours, is the world leader in exploration travel.

“ Local cuisine and dining is an integral part of any voyage and Hurtigruten is devoting even more resources to its cuisine and catering to our passengers varied tastes and dining styles” says Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam.

Hurtigruten has always offered fresh local ingredients on its menu. They now plan to spice up an already highly-regarded menu plan by adding a new a la carte dinner menu on nine of its coastal voyage ships.

Highlights of the new a la carte menu include scallops sourced from Bodil, where they were handpicked by local divers, served with Norwegian chorizo and a cauliflower cream; reindeer from the mountain plateaus in Finnmarken served with goat cheese from Lofoten’s Aalan Farm and a black current sauce; and cloudberry cream made from the special, golden berries that grow high above the arctic circle served with pudding and a cloudberry "shot." Additional wine and drink packages are also available.

Like the set menus and buffet meals available on Hurtigruten, offerings on the a la carte menu will change seasonally to reflect the freshest produce, seafood and meats available, and are offered year round. Both menus focus on traditional Norwegian cuisine prepared in an upscale, creative way.

A staple of Norwegian culture since 1893, Hurtigruten's fleet of modern ships offers a unique glimpse into Norwegian culture as they transport guests and locals alike along Norway’s scenic fjord-indented west coast, stopping at 34 ports of call between the cultural center of Bergen and Kirkenes, high above the Arctic Circle.

HURTIGRUTEN LAUNCHES NEW COOKBOOK

Seafaring Nordic Recipes from Hurtigruten’s Talented Chefs

TORONTO -  Norway boasts spectacular scenery and history but lesser known is its distinct Nordic cuisine.   Hurtigruten, represented in Canada by GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours, has launched a new cookbook entitled “Norway’s Coastal Kitchen,” featuring traditional Norwegian recipes compiled by Hurtigruten’s team of chefs.   Hurtigruten is a world leader in cruises in Norway, Spitsbergen, Greenland and Antarctica.

“Our guests are eager to learn about all aspects of Norwegian culture and we’ve found that connecting with traditional Nordic cuisine is an important part of the travel experience,” says Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam. “We’ve seen that guests from around the globe are excited by our high-quality, locally-sourced food—they find it to be authentic and unpretentious and want to take the experience home with them.”

Discover Norway’s natural beauty and fascinating history and culture but while onboard one of Hurtigruten’s 11 coastal ships passengers can experience the country’s earthy yet refined cuisine.   Locally sourced food is always served on board with traditional dishes like lightly fried king crab with kale salad.    Now passengers will be able to recreate many of their favourite Norwegian dishes at home with the newly launched cookbook Norway’s Coastal Kitchen.  The cookbook will be available for purchase on all Hurtigruten ships.  It will be published in Norwegian but with translations in English, German, French and Chinese Mandarin.   This is the first Norwegian cookbook to be translated into Chinese according to Skjeldam.

Hurtigruten last year launched a new dining concept, also called Norway’s Coastal Kitchen which features seasonal ingredients in each dish while fostering strong partnerships with the local suppliers. Much of the produce, seafood and meat are sourced locally at the 34 ports visited on each ship’s journey up and down the scenic west coast of Norway. Dishes represent traditional Norwegian cuisine prepared in upscale and creative ways.

A staple of Norwegian culture since 1893, Hurtigruten’s fleet of modern ships offers a unique glimpse into Norwegian culture as they transport guests and locals alike along Norway’s scenic fjord-indented west coast, stopping at 34 ports of call between the cultural center of Bergen and Kirkenes, high above the Arctic Circle.

Sailing aboard Hurtigruten ships means large, comfortable lounges with panoramic windows and wonderful views from large outdoor decks; open seating for most meals; authentic Norwegian cuisine designed with fresh seasonal ingredients and incredible seafood, complemented by a comprehensive wine list; a range of comfortable cabin choices that includes large suites, some with private balconies; and a friendly, well-informed crew with multilingual tour directors, ready to offer helpful assistance.
Hurtigruten sails to the most remote of destinations as well as year-round along Norway's coast. The company’s fleet of intimate ships, which each carry 100 to 646 guests, allows travelers to enjoy the scenery and culture of the destination in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hurtigruten Adds New Expedition Ship
Addition Means more Future Expeditions

TORONTO - Hurtigruten announced it will be adding one more ship to its current fleet of 13 ships with the purchase of a new expedition ship which will temporarily be named MS Norway Explorer. Hurtigruten, represented in Canada by GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours, is the world leader in exploration travel.

"The new ship's maneuverability and optimal size will bring Hurtigruten's guests even closer to nature,” says CEO Daniel Skjeldam. “We invest in our fleet to ensure that Hurtigruten remains a world leader in sustainable explorer travels along the Norwegian coast and polar destinations as well as enrich our guests' unique experiences by expanding our service at destinations such as Greenland, Svalbard and Antarctica."

The ship was built in Portugal in 2009 at the Viana do Castelo shipyard and is now making its way to Scandinavia. The ship will undergo a total reconstruction including adapting for polar waters; upgrading the cabins, suites and public spaces for the 320 passengers; and adjusting the power plants and emissions so as to meet Hurtigruten’s high standards, the ship will then join the fleet along the Norwegian Coastal Voyage route. The new ship will replace the Midnatsol, which will join the MS Fram in Antarctica for the 2016/17 season.

Hurtigruten is expanding its marketing and sales efforts in North America. The cruise line was taken private in 2014 and will be launching new itineraries, an array of new soft and hard adventure excursions and expansion of its highly regarded expedition leader teams over the next few years.

Hurtigruten Triples the Number of Berths for Antarctica Sailings
More Availability Means More Choice for Passengers

TORONTO -   Go south – way south to Antarctica.   GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours, the Canadian representative for Hurtigruten, is making it easier to book an Antarctica cruise as the MS Midnatsol will be utilized for the 2016/17 sailing season.  This will triple Hurtigruten’s capacity for sailings in this increasingly popular region.

"With triple the berths this will make Antarctica more accessible and give more choice while meeting the demand for more experiential and nature based voyages especially to this part of the world,” said Alan Law, GLP Worldwide Expedition Travel and Tours' director of sales and marketing.

The MS Midnatsol will join Hurtigruten’s well-known expedition ship, the MS Fram, increasing the company’s seasonal berths from 2,268 in 2015/16 to 6,800 berths in 2016/17. Antarctica itineraries include highlights such as the Falkland Islands, Chilean fjords, Patagonia, the Magellan Strait and Cape Horn. Sailings will depart from October 2016 to March 2017 with prices ranging from $5,999 US to $6,666 US per person, based on double occupancy.

The MS Midnatsol, will feature 10 Antarctic voyages departing from Punta Arenas in the Chilean Patagonia and ranging from 15 to 18 days. Every sailing features an experienced expedition team to lead guests on exciting and educational landings and shore excursions including hiking on glacial ice dating back thousands of years, strolling near tuxedo-clad penguins, kayaking among seals and snorkeling in Antarctica’s frigid waters. On-board, multi-faced scientific lectures will give guests an insight into some of the same mysteries that have attracted the world’s explorers, scientists and adventurers to this remote wonderland for more than 100 years.

Hurtigruten is also revising and enhancing the itineraries and programs associated with their 200-berth deluxe explorer vessel, MS Fram. Using Ushuaia, Argentina as its base, the expedition teams will seek out new sites and destinations in Antarctica that are inaccessible to larger groups. Guests will have the opportunity to take on more challenging and extreme excursions such as skiing on glaciers and expedition camping among penguins.

There will be more choice for passengers:  the traditional Antarctic experience with all the highlights when they sail on the MS Midnatsol or for those more adventurous we will offer a more challenging and activity filled Antarctica product with MS Fram.   Both cruises will still offer Antarctica’s scenic beauty with its massive icebergs, towering glaciers and abundant wildlife.

The Midnatsol is extremely suitable for Antarctica operations as it was built for the Arctic region and boasts some of the lowest fuel consumption per passenger of any ship in the industry.

Hurtigruten has a fleet of 13 ships that provide you cruising comfort, exceptional service, and go beyond traditional cruising by offering itineraries and journeys that get close to environments, wildlife and local people in the most remote parts of the world.   For more information on Hurtigruten please visit GLP Worldwide’s website and this link: http://www.glpworldwide.com/products/hurtigruten
