2009/2010 Antarctica: Shore Excursions

Buenos Aires Sightseeing (Buenos Aires)
All year, 3 hours, $TBA per person: Guided sightseeing tour by motorcoach of Buenos Aires' most important sights, such as the trendy barrios, or neighborhoods, of Palermo, with its designer boutiques and cafes, and Recoleta, whose famed cemetery houses the mausoleum of Eva Peron. Other highlights include 9 of July Boulevard and the Obelisk; May Square, home to City Hall, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the federal Pink Palace; and "Old Town" areas such as the popular, cobblestone streets of San Telmo and the colorful wooden houses of La Boca.

Dinner & Tango at Esquine Carlos Gardel (Buenos Aires)
All year, 3 hours, $TBA per person: An exclusive tango and dinner show held in classic surroundings where the icon of the tango, Carlos Gardel, built his unmistakable image. While enjoying dinner, you will learn the history of tango and experience a tango show to live music. The excursion includes transfers from the hotel and back, a welcome drink, dinner, and beverages (including wine).

Falkland Islands Audio Tour (Stanley)
All year, 2 hours, $TBA per person: Learn about the charming capital of the Falklands on your own. An Audio Guide device available in English, as well as several other languages, provides interpretive programming about the highlights of the city. This independent walking tour allows you to proceed at your own pace; however, a time limit of 2 hours is set. The Audio Guide program, divided into 25 tracks, is 50 minutes long.

Falkland Islands Birdwatching (Stanley)
All year, 3 hours, $TBA per person: Depart from the Jetty Visitors Centre in Stanley, heading for Hadassa Bay. A Falklands Conservation tour guide will distribute an illustrated checklist of local birds and share general background information about the birds of the Falkland Islands. You can expect to see about 20 to 30 different bird species, including the Falkland Flightless Steamer duck and Rock cormorants. Magellanic penguins burrow in the area's tussac grass and the Blackthroated finch can easily be spotted here.

Falkland Islands Farm (Stanley)
All year, 3 hours, $TBA per person: Take this opportunity to experience the Falklands' traditional farming lifestyles. See how local farmers maintain traditions and methods passed down for generations. Travel through landscapes sculpted by harsh weather conditions, passing through mysterious stone ruins and fantastic scenery on the way to Long Island Farm. There, you will experience a typical day at a Falklands farm. See the skilled sheep dogs and Falklands-bred horses, and learn about other local traditions, such as the use of peat for fuel. Note: Maximum of 44 guests per departure.

Tierra Del Fuego National Park Tour (Ushuaia)
All year, 3 hours, $TBA per person: On your way to Argentina's Tierra del Fuego National Park, drive by the forested slopes of Mount Susana, passing a railroad built by prisoners to transport wood to Ushuaia. This tour offers spectacular views of the islands of Redonda and Estorbo, Beagle Channel, the snowy peaks of the Sampaio Mountains, and beautiful Roca Lake. During your walk, enjoy the view of Condor Hill, which forms the natural border with Chile. Visit two of the most beautiful spots in the park, the Green Lagoon and Lapataia Bay.
